Sclerotherapy

What is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a micro-injection procedure that needs no pain medication or surgery.

Abnormal veins are treated by injecting a solution called a sclerosant. This seals the vein off from the rest of the vein network in your leg, allowing the body to naturally redirect the blood flow to healthy veins. A typical treatment may last for 15 to 20 minutes and will consist of multiple microinjections.

Treating Vein Disorders

For larger varicose veins our physicians utilize ultrasound-guided Sclerotherapy. The ultrasound provides a live view of your veins, ensuring that the physician is injecting the sclerosant into the precise location to optimize treatment results.

For spider veins and other small veins closer to the skin's surface, ultrasound guidance is usually not necessary. In these cases, our physicians and nurses can effectively treat these veins with Sclerotherapy.

Before After

Post Treatment

After the procedure you will be required to elevate your legs for a short period of time. Once the vein is closed, the blood that was circulating through the vein is naturally rerouted to other healthy veins. Over time, the varicose vein is absorbed by the body. Normal blood flow is then rerouted to healthy veins
