Sponsor of 2010 Have a Heart Benefit
Vein Clinics of America has been a sponsor for the Have a Heart Benefit since 2009. The friends and family of Jennifer Shih started the Have a Heart Benefit in 2004 when she suddenly needed a heart transplant. They raised money to help pay the enormous hospital, medication, and laboratory bills that came along with her heart transplant. Once she regained her health, Jennifer joined the effort to help others who have been affected by organ reception, organ donation, or both. By volunteering at hospitals and events, raising money, answering questions and lending a listening ear, the Have a Heart Benefit has helped support the importance of organ donation.
Ecuador Phlebology Trip
Dr. Ted King, Vein Clinics of America's National Medical Director, traveled to Ecuador in July 2010 along with 90 other physicians, nurses and helpers from a wide range of medical specialties. They are from the United States, Italy and Belgium.
Dr. King treated residents who have limited financial means and difficulty accessing physicians or insurance, many of whom saved for months or traveled long distances to be treated at the mission’s week-long clinic.
Honduras Phlebology Trip
Dr. Ted King, Vein Clinics of America's National Medical Director, and Dr. Satish Vayuvegula, a physician at Vein Clinics of America Orland Park, Ill., traveled to Honduras in March 2010 along with 25 other phlebologists, nurses and helpers from all over the United States and Canada.
This service mission to Honduras in Central America provided free care to suffering people and accomplished the hands-on training that is indispensable to learning Phlebology, the study of veins. Many of the patients had been dealing with pain and disability from varicose vein disease for years and had no hope. The people they treated were extraordinarily appreciative and grateful. It was very rewarding experience for everyone involved.
