And this is why July has been dubbed National Ice Cream Month — because we all love a good cone when the temps start to rise.

However, we all know that ice cream isn’t exactly healthy. From the heavy amounts of sugar to the other ingredients that we’ve never heard of, when you buy your ice cream from the store, chances are good you’re getting something that will satisfy your sugar cravings, but will leave your body feeling less than fabulous.

So why not get the best of both worlds and eat ice cream while still managing to make it healthy? We can’t figure out any reason why you wouldn’t do something like this, and we are here to help you complete that mission.

1. Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter Delight

This tasty ice cream will make you feel like you’re getting all the sugar your body could ever want and need. Instead, you’ll be getting a healthy dose of goodness that will leave you feeling oh-so satisfied.


  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 4 frozen bananas
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ⅓ cup cocoa powder
  • 2 T peanut butter


  1. Throw first 4 ingredients into a blender and blend until creamy
  2. Add in peanut butter and blend to mix

  1. Blend first 4 ingredients until smooth

This dairy-free approach to cookie dough ice cream will have you wondering why you ever ate the unhealthy version. This is definitely a repeat that we will be enjoying all summer long.


Vegan cookie dough

  • 2 T coconut oil
  • 2 T maple syrup
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup flour (either white, spelt, or almond)
  • 2 T vegas chocolate chips
  • Pinch sea salt

Vegan ice cream

  • 2 cups raw cashews (soaked overnight)
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch sea salt
  • 2 T vegan chocolate chips


  1. Soak cashews in water overnight
  2. Rinse and drain in the morning
  3. Mix together cookie dough ingredients and roll into small balls on parchment paper-lined pan
  4. Freeze cookie dough balls for at least one hour
  5. Mix ice cream ingredients (except chocolate chips) and blend until smooth
  6. Transfer ice cream to a loaf pan and stir in chocolate chips and cookie dough balls
  7. Freeze for 4 hours

Making ice cream doesn’t have to be difficult and doesn’t mean that you have to throw all your healthy morals out the window. As you can see above, it is possible to make ice cream that is healthy and that will leave you screaming for more.
