Top Ways To Celebrate National Self Improvement Month
The goal is to always improve yourself, right? But finding the motivation is usually the hardest part.
September is National Self Improvement Month and (hopefully) everyone around you will be working to improve themselves all at the same time, and this will serve as the ideal motivation for you to put the pedal to the metal.
So what are the best ways for you to jump start your improvement and celebrate National Self Improvement Month? Read on to find out.
How to Make the Most of National Self Improvement Month
Do you ever get the feeling that you are stuck in the same routine and can’t get out of it? Sounds like you are in need of some travel.
One of the ways to get out of a rut is to physically change your location. That not only gives you some variety in your life, but it also is a great way to change your perspective and to get you out of your comfort zone.
Whether you’re traveling to a new country or just the city next to yours, you’ll be doing something different that will have you improving yourself in ways you’d never be able to do back home.
2. Eat Healthier
You may think you eat pretty healthy but when you take a step back and really look at it, how healthy is your diet? It is so easy with busy lifestyles and the availability of unhealthy foods to reach for something that may not provide your body with the nutrients it needs, but in the long run that may cause you some serious problems.
So, why not take this Self Improvement Month to work on your eating habits and make some healthy swaps? Instead of reaching for that ice cream after dinner, grab some yogurt instead. Aim to eat slower so your body has time to realize it’s full before you keep filling it with more. Eat meals that are well-rounded and full of proteins, fats, and carbs so that you aren’t left with cravings a couple hours later.
There are many small changes you can make to your diet that are healthy and don’t require a complete lifestyle change. So work on adopting some of those changes today!
3. Get Moving
One of the top things that puts you at risk for varicose veins is leading a sedentary lifestyle. If you find yourself sitting or standing for long periods of time, you may have an increased risk for vein problems.
So what should you do about this? Well, get moving! You don’t need to expect yourself to spend 2 hours at the gym every day. Even small changes to your daily exercise can bring your veins and the rest of your body some great improvements.
4. Find a New Hobby
According to Ruth Burke, “Only boring people get bored.” So, if you find yourself feeling bored, here is your sign to use National Self Improvement Month as your motivation to pick up a new hobby.
Developing a new hobby is a great way to get out of your comfort zone (which is something we love because it’s where the most personal growth happens!), but it is also a great way to expand your skills and your knowledge as well!
Always wanted to pick up playing the piano? Been wanting to learn a new language? Learn how to make homemade bread? Start playing the guitar? The list is endless of the hobbies that you can pick up. Just seize this month as your opportunity to get the ball rolling and find something that you’d like to fill your free time with.
You never know where a hobby may end up taking you!
5. Read a Book
With all of the electronic gadgets at our fingertips, it’s easy to throw a book to the side and instead watch your favorite show on Netflix.
But there is a feeling you get from reading a book that you just cannot get from your television, or your iPhone. There is something about a book that takes you back to the basics and transforms you in a deeper way to an entirely different world where you can easily find yourself getting lost (in the best of ways).
Even just 30 minutes a day of curling up with a good book will give you a nice escape from the usual life and give you a shift in perspective that we all need a bit more of.
6. Help Others
A great method for self-improvement is to get outside of yourself and help others. This is a win-win situation. Not only will you be helping someone in need, you will also be learning more about yourself. And who doesn’t need to learn a bit more about that?
In addition, you’ll meet new people!
